Super Songs to Inspire Your Summer Holiday Playlist

For decades, musicians sung their heart out of their favourite destinations, and these great songs over the years are a good source of inspiration for holiday ideas as any other. These top tunes will help you pick your next holiday abroad.

Rio – Duran Duran
Since Duran Duran captured their feelings about Rio de Janeiro, dancing on the sand has never been the same. The song was written as an ode to band’s experiences while on tour in Brazil in the 80s.

Viva Las Vegas – Elvis
The King is very influential that any destination that he would recommend is well worth a visit. The best night life in the world can only be found here in the Sin City. Indeed, it’s Long Live Vegas.

Barcelona – Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury commissioned for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and he combined his own unique vocal talent with the excellent operatic voice of Montserrat Caballe. Without Queen, this song is his most successful single and a brilliant advertisement for the Spanish City.

America – Razorlight
The second album of Razorlight was entitled America. It said that when there’s “nothing on TV, nothing on the radio”, then take a holiday to America.

Vienna – Ultravox
The song Vienna is one of the synthesizer pop at its very best. It combines a classic piano melody with 80s synthesizer backing. The 1948 film The Third Man was the source behind the title of the song, which is based around Austria’s capital city.

Stranger in Moscow – Michael Jackson
This song is one of MJ’s slightly less well-known songs. However, it achieved critical success but failed in terms of record sales compared to his big hits like Billie Jean, Black or White and Thriller. During 90s when he toured Russia, this song taps Jackson’s loneliness.

Africa – Toto
A massive hit in 1982, this is the best known song if Toto. Africa is a big place to explore when planning a holiday destination, but the Serengeti National Park mentioned in the song is in Tanzania, also perfect for a far-flung Safari.

Amarillo – Tony Christie
Amarillo is a city in Texas with a 200,000 population. The place is unextraordinary and you have to find the way to be there. It is in between Albuquerque and Oklahoma on Interstate 40.

Down Under – Men At Work
The lyrics of Men At Work have already pointed out that going on holiday down under Australia is a great experience. Make sure you have yourself a thunder, chunder and vegemite sandwiches in equal proportions. Australia is a marvellous country with one of the world’s friendliest populations.

New York New York – Frank Sinatra
The classic song of Frank Sinatra inspired untold hoLidays to America. Tourists from all over the world travelled the Big Apple to see the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and various renditions of this song by street performers.

Confessions of a Sinner by Simone Mimbs

In the book confession of a sinner I explore the many reasons why women should keep moving on. I tackle the issues of faith, and why women should hold on. When I began writing this book originally this was about friends, then the book turned into my life. Some of the stories that you will read in this book are heart wrenching, some will make you laugh but all will inspire. All the stories in my book are true and they happened to me are one of my closest friends, I only ask that you read with an open heart and change the place that you are in. I once heard it said good artists borrow and great artists steal, well i think great artists can make you feel and inspire you to live your best life yet. With this book I hope to reach just one person, that may have been in any one of my situations. I want all women to know dare to dream, and dream big. I have been through many things and I have overcome them all with the help of God, and I want you to know so can you. If you ever feel like you are alone fret not, “God is there”. So when you read this take heart in knowing that after the dark the sun must shine. God never said life would be easy, but he did say he would be there every step of the way.So this is just some advice from a girl who has learned alot. cry less , laugh more and learn to live your best life now

Hooters photog: It’s a great job and someone’s got to it

Diane Alter – AHN News Reporter

Clearwater, FL, United States (AHN) – “Someone’s got to do it so it might as well be me,” says photographer Dylan Melcher.

Each year, between February and July, Dylan’s 15-hour days are a whirlwind. A typical day goes something like this: wake up in a hotel, gather up gear, rush to a location, preside over an important gathering, then pack. Then Dylan rushes to return a rental car, jumps on a flight; arrives in another city; grabs a quick dinner and maybe a drink in a hotel bar, turns in early and does the whole thing all over again–sometimes up to 30 consecutive days at a time.

Dylan’s lifestyle, while hectic, may just be the envy and dream of most men. In addition to all the running around, he also takes 500 photographs of bikini clad models on an average day. Dylan is the lead photographer of the Hooters Swimsuit Calendar. The calendar is the largest seller in its category. The 2012 calendar, marking the 26th edition, debuts on Oct. 5.

Melcher, 26, once lived and worked in Manhattan and Beijing. He currently is based in Clearwater, FL. Melcher majored in International Affairs at Florida State University and minored in Chinese. He also received his MBA in business at the University of Tampa.

It might be said that Melcher was literally born into his current career. His father, an accomplished photographer, is the publisher of the Hooters Calendar. His mother handled business for the calendar and wrote some of the copy for the early editions. His younger brother is a designer for the Hooters Calendar website, video and iPhone app. Thanksgiving dinner must be a hoot.

Dylan began helping out in the studio at age 12. When he finally picked up a camera he was a natural. The self-taught photographer says he learned by observing, shooting pictures and some great mentoring.

While Dylan may be the envy of his male friends, he says, “The job is not as glamorous as it might appear. Trying to sleep in a different bed and environment night after night can be stressful. The days are long and tiring with automotive drives and flat tires, inclement weather and flight cancelations.” But, the smile that forms as he details his lifestyle is proof he has very few real complaints.

Hooters Calendar Girls are selected from nearly 25,000 working employees of Hooters located in more than 450 restaurants worldwide. The final almanac features about 200 images of bikini clad women. Melcher estimates that about 40,000 photos were shot for the calendar, or about 100 photos per girl.

As for his personal life, Melcher says that he in a relationship, and his model (of course) girlfriend understands his work.

Yes, it’s a tough job, and some lucky guy, Dylan Melcher, gets to do it.

Scout with autism earns all 132 badges

Diane Alter – AHN News Reporter

South Jordan, UT, United States (AHN) – To become an Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting, a Boy Scout must earn 21 merit badges. Nathan Christensen, 17, a senior at Bingham High in South Jordan, Utah, earned all 132 badges. And what makes his accomplishment even more impressive is that Nathan has autism.

Nate’s mother Sandy said Scouting helped improve his social skills. Nate, who didn’t start speaking until he was 7, started working on earning his badges, from journalism to camping, when he was 11. Six years later he had all 132.

Nate took no shortcuts in getting his badges, even though that was an option for him. He has binders for all of his badges to remind him of his hard work, and to inspire him in the future.

Nate received his last two badges, for chess and inventing, Sunday night at a special ceremony at his church.

In 2010, just 5 percent of Boy Scouts went on to receive the Eagle Scout Award. Some notable individuals who has achieved the rank include: astronaut Neil Armstrong, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former U.S. president Gerald Ford, Academy Award-winning director Michael Moore and Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart.
