If you’ve decided that the child care business is the business for you, then you’re already on the road to becoming your own boss in a lucrative industry that will always have clients.

If you’ve already got (almost) everything you need for your daycare, you should consider these few tips for marketing your daycare center. If you’re saying “But I already have advertisements out,” good for you! This means you’ve already taken initial steps to find your customers. Marketing is different from advertising because it’s the way you present your entire service to your potential clients. If you’ve already asked around and know that there is a need for a daycare center in your neighborhood or community, we have a few simple and easy tips that you could use to maximize your impact in the world of child care.

1) Be professional, look professional – The first thing you want to do to let people take you seriously enough to leave their children in your hands is to look the part. Dress as well as you can. If you’re an everyday jeans and t-shirt type of person, just put on a nice shirt and shoes when you meet your potential clients. This will go a long way to making lasting first impressions that can lead to new customers.

2) Go for pretty — This applies to your marketing materials. Have a business card with your name and contact numbers made. Create brochures to showcase your facilities and planned activities or curriculum. Take a little time and invest in these things since you’ll be giving them out. A brightly colored, glossy brochure is sure to bring in more clients than a photocopied piece of paper. Not sure you have the budget for it? Be creative! Give away bookmarks or flyers that are handmade, but colorful and useful. Color always draws more attention than black and white-try it and see results within a few days.

3) Take a risk – Invest in a good sized advertisement in your local classifieds or town paper. Run a radio spot or two. Your local radio station will know when to play it so that it’ll appeal to your target audience: professionals with children who need a day care.

4) Use your friends – If you’re starting up, take advantage of the people you know. Why not give brochures to your friend who works at the local elementary school? Ask your relatives who have children to recommend you to people who are looking for daycare centers. Ask your local realtor to tell prospective people moving in that you are one of the daycares in the area.

5) Go past your comfort zone – Not really a web person? Why not try creating a website (there are many free domains and blog services) out there. If you’re a bit shy, try approaching people on the street or asking a local cafe or pub to give out flyers and brochures for you. It can be as simple as giving out your business card or contact number to anyone-don’t be too obnoxious, just let them know you’re willing to provide a good service.

6) Be consistent – Design all your advertisements and marketing materials to have a quietly uniform look. You don’t have to go all McDonald’s and print everything out in the same color. At the same time don’t be too creative and give your business card a color pattern that’s different from your brochure. People will remember you more if you continually the same type of design elements.

These are but a few of the many tactics you can use to market your daycare center. All it takes is a little creativity and a sense of professionalism. Soon you’ll be fielding inquires and attracting clients!

You’ve decided to join the world of entrepreneurs. Congratulations! We’re here to give you the best and most straightforward advice on how to start your own day care business. Don’t have a lot of time? Here’s a basic run through of the eight things you need to start your day care business.

Step One: Have A Plan. What type of daycare will you putting up? Will it be for kids, an adult day care? How will you run it? Where will you put it? Start thinking about what you are going to do. Do some research (like checking the rest of this website out) and think of what you want to do to make your day care the best one around. Make your own business plan and stick to it.

Step Two: Fix your requirements. This include state and government licenses for day care centers. These vary from state to state. Make sure that you have all that you need to prevent yourself from running into trouble in the future. These include following the rules and regulations set by law. Insurance falls under here. Research on your possible tax deductions and government grants.

Step Three: Find your capital. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t need money. It’s a business; you need to sink some money into it before you can start making money. But think of the money you can make! There are many ways to jump-start your capital if you don’t have enough saved. Hold fundraises, find a potential investor or take out a loan. You can also turn your day care into a partnership by finding someone you trust. Get a silent backer or a government grant. Speak with your local business associations.

Step Four: Location. Location. Location. Where will you set up your day care? Will you run it from your home or lease? You need this to know what licenses are necessary, as well as to give you an idea of your expenses and possible income flow when you open the business. This will determine what type of clientele you will have. Find a great spot with lots of traffic-the kind of traffic you need. The perfect spot? An area where there are lots of families nearby, or an area where lots of families go to eat shop and spend time together.

Step Five: Spread the word. Tell people you’re opening a day care center. Advertise. Tell them what your center is going to be like. Harass-ahem, contact potential clients. Use your connections, your friends. Place ads. Stand in the street and hand out flyers. Place a flyer on your car rearview and drive around town. Try to get potential clients to sign in even before you open. You’ll breathe a sigh of relief on that first day, instead of anxiously watching the door.

Step Six: Set up your day care center. Here comes the hard part. This is the part where you buy your furniture, supplies and renovate (if you need to). This is the time clear out that basement that nobody uses or that apartment over the garage that you’ve been planning to convert into something. Paint, sand, child-proof your electric sockets.

Step Seven: Hire. If you’re planning on a big enterprise, now is the time to conduct interviews and begin hiring.

Step Eight: Be patient. Remember, you’re just starting out. There will be ups and downs before your business stabilizes. You can’t expect to be fighting off droves of parents on your first day open. Patience, determination and our helpful tips will help you turn your day care into a rip roaring success.

Like any major project, creating a business plan requires many different disciplines and resources. Here, four different plan considerations will be discussed. They are: 1) creation team members, 2) partitioning the plan parts, 3) assigning team member hierarchy and 4) writing and editing the plan. Each of these areas is of great importance.

First, appropriate team members must be assembled that have the expertise to address the plan parts. While it isn’t necessary that every one be a skilled writer, they should possess the knowledge needed to create the plan parts. That knowledge can be explicit (e.g., accounting or business management) or process oriented (e.g., internet researcher or editor). Another very important consideration for a member is to assure they are committed to the plan process. The business plan creation process is complex, arduous, stressful and time consuming. Each potential team member must be assessed during an interview to make sure they are a willing and enthusiastic candidate and that they have the ability to work with the team to complete the desired plan.

Next, once the business plan creation team has been selected, it will be necessary to partition the plan and assign parts to the various team members. Some members will be doing research (e.g., competitor analysis or internet research), others will be creating plan pieces (e.g., financials or budgets), still others will be assembling the plan pieces and finally someone will be required to write and edit the business plan package.

Another important element of the business plan process will be setting up the team member hierarchy. The business plan creation process is complex and there are many opportunities to overlap, conflict and waste effort. It is necessary for each team member to understand his or her exact duties and responsibilities.

At the top of the team hierarchy will be a member that is the integration manager. This function is to make sure the plan parts fit together and complement each other. Effectively, the integration manager is the master of the team and his/her skill will contribute to the quality, flow and completeness of the plan. He/she will act as dictator, conciliator and cheerleader during the creation process.

The final complex tasks are the writing and editing processes. This daunting process brings together all the research, development facts, financial projections and the marketing concepts into a written document. It is a process to create a clear, unique and doable written plan for the business. It is most of all a marketing document and must talk directly to those outside entities that are to be impressed. Plans are used to obtain investors, financing and other backing. It’s carefully written to address the unique organizations and individuals that will be required to help make this business succeed. It must sell them that plan documents what is needed and how the business will succeed in the accomplishment. While the financials are important the sales and marketing aspects are essential in a positive presentation outcome.

In conclusion, the business plan team must have the resources, skills and desire to create a quality plan. The quality, thoroughness and skill of the plan team will determine if the business plan presents the appropriate facts, sells the business opportunity and demonstrates a mastery of the business environment necessary to be successful. It doesn’t matter how wonderful the product or service is, someone must get it to those in need–The business plan gets this process started correctly.

If you are facing going back to work after having a baby, chances are you are looking for a daycare provider. You can either choose to have your child in a home daycare situation, or a structured daycare center. If you choose a center, there are a few things you should look for to ensure you are getting a great daycare center for your child.

Narrow down your search by making a list of the things you need in a center. For instance, is it important that there be small groups of children, or that the center is close to home, or do you need a center close to your work? These are the kinds of questions that will help you decide on a smaller group of centers to choose from.

Next, talk to anyone you can to research your different possibilities. Talk to your pediatrician, friends, co-workers and referral agencies in your area. While talking to these people and researching different centers, remember to keep in mind your list of what is important. Create a list of centers. Find out if they are accredited, or if they have ever received an award.

Create a list of centers that have a good reputation and will meet your needs. Then call them. Conduct a phone interview and write down your initial feeling about this call. Ask about policies, fees, activities, numbers, philosophies and hours. Find out how flexible they are. Find out if you can request special things, such as certain foods. Find out if they will have the same teacher and how many children per teacher they have. Find out what the qualifications of the teachers are.

If you do not have a good feeling about your phone interview, cross those centers off your list. For the centers you had a good feeling about, schedule an interview at the center. Have them give you a list of the schedule and activities. Look around the center carefully. Is it clean? Is the temperature appropriate? Is the environment safe? Verify that the teacher per child ratio is what you were quoted on your phone interview. Do the children look like they are having fun? Ask all your questions and make sure there are no places you cannot have access to. Record your feelings about the in person interview.

Once you have narrowed down your list again, ask for references of children who are at the center and call those parents. Find out if they recommend the center. This will be one of the most telling parts of your research.

Finally, take your child to visit the center. See how he or she acts around the teachers and children. Does your child look like he or she would be happy in the center? Keep in mind that a young child is not going to rush into a new group and start playing the first time, so he or she may stay close by you. But you are a parent and you will probably have the ability to discern if he or she would eventually be comfortable in the center.

Once you find the center you would like, you need to enroll your child, because quality centers usually have a waiting list. Don’t let this discourage you. Get your name on the list and find a babysitter until a position becomes available. Getting a quality center is worth a short wait!

Child care is seen by many as one of the most respected and equally demanding professions. It is now a multi-million industry that spans a network of day care centers, kinder garden, franchise and large corporations. All of the institutions are working together to provide children with their parental and educational needs. With such a delicate duty, it is vital for the industry professionals to improve on the existing safety standards in the child care industry.

Statistics

Statistics reveal that the fastest growing sector in the child care industry is the many small businesses. These entities mostly operate from homes. According to US Census Bureau, nearly 70 percent of the child care related businesses are home based. A whopping 17 percent of the Moms are using the services of the neighborhood child care centers for their pre-school children. Kinder-Care, La Petite Academy, National Childcare Academy and Gerber products are some of the few big names of the industry.

Laws & Regulations

Recent rulings have deployed stringent rules in order to curb the risk of injuries to babies. Governments and parents have come together to create child safety laws, not only for the establishments but for parents too. These laws strss that the daycare should provide a home like setting. Licensed providers are required to take trainings before dealing with child care. The facilities should be regularly visited by the authorities and a group of parents from the local neighborhoods. The US laws restrict a single provider to take care of more than 6 children. On the other hand, parents are obliged to put their child in the day care center in their own community, except for mothers working full-time.

Child Injuries

Childcare safety statistics reveal the fact that there were 56 casualties in the daycare settings from 1990 to 1997. Almost half of these deaths were caused due to Asphyxia. In 1997 alone, over 31,000 children were hospitalized due to the injuries related to a child care setting. A recent study by the Society of pediatrics and Center for the control of disease focused on facilities that included federal institutions, private institutes and small businesses. The study found that the playgrounds posed the biggest hazard to a child.

. The most hazardous conditions included the use of unsafe cribs, poor maintenance and hard surface of the playground, very soft bedding and absence of the safety gates.

Safety Measures

Professionals recommend avoiding the use of furniture that can entrap the child’s head or other part of the body. Any elevated surface that is not guarded should also be sealed off. Such surface also includes stairs. Similarly, fall-zones such as swimming pools and main holes provide a significant threat to the well being of a child. The design of the intended child care product should match the age and size of the children. Day care centers should ensure that they have the proper inventory for all the ages of the child, they admit.

Tripping hazards such as wires should immediately be removed from the premises. These also include any electrical appliance. Children have the natural tendency to poke their fingers in the wall sockets. It is mandatory for a child care center to seal off such openings. All components are to be avoided that can crush or bruise body tissues. Playground equipment should be inspected and any large swings or slides, to be removed. Stuff toys which can suffocate a small child are also a problem. In short, the best remedy for avoiding a disaster is acute attention and a common sense.

Do you want to open your own daycare center? This day and age, there are lots of women who put up their own daycare so to earn their own money. Do you wish to be one of them? Actually, that’s not hard to do, if you do the right things, you will certainly gain success with this kind of business. Putting this business can be so much rewarding, not only financially but spiritually as well. Being with children and working around them is definitely one of the best pleasures.

As soon as your daycare becomes successful, you can expand it out. In expanding, you need to hire assistants to assist you with all the works in your facility. But, of course, you need to be extra careful in hiring people for your facility. There are steps you need to consider to make sure that you’ll be hiring the right people.

You do not have to be very strict in terms of experience; you can try out applicants with not much experience provided that they have references from the families that they have babysat before. You can check out if all the information they provide you is true by conducting background check on them.

You have to look for staffs that are willing to work for you for long period of time. So, you really have to assure if these persons are truly interested in working with your facility. Since, changing staffs every now and then can make parents feel that there is something fishy going on in your daycare center. Take note, instability is not good for children under your care.

Avoid misunderstandings from your staffs; you have to explain everything to them. Let your staffs know all the details about your daycare. Before they begin working, you have to make sure that they know all the details including the rules and regulations in your center. You do not have to be afraid of repeating yourself over and over again because you have to make sure that you will not miss anything.

You have to watch your employees for the first month that they are working for you. You have to check out if they can work well with kids. Check out if they have the patience and compassion with kids. If things didn’t turn out well, don’t hesitate to fire your employees.
