Italian Students Protest Against Education Reforms

Rome, Italy (AHN) – To protest against the Berlusconi administration’s education reform plans, which will see a cut of $12 billion and loss of 130,000 education-related jobs, Italian students on Thursday protested on the top of two major tourist attractions, forcing authorities to evacuate tourists from the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum.
Some protesters hung a banner reading “No Cuts, No Profit!” from the medieval tower’s top tier, while hundreds of students jumped over turnstiles to protest inside the ancient amphitheater.
Nearly 2,000 students formed a human chain in Pisa around the tower and prevented tourists from entering it.
They also marched across the city. The Italian Parliament is scheduled to vote on the reforms next Tuesday.
Before leaving the sites, the students also lit red smoke flares and shouted anti-reform slogans.
There were also reports of student protests in other Italian cities and reports of student-police clashes in Florence and Milan.

Two Clerics Gunned Down In Central Somalia

Adado, Somalia (AHN) – Gunmen shot and killed two well-known clerics in the town of Adado in the Galgudud region in central Somalia, witnesses and officials said Monday.
Sheikh Abdulkarim Osman and Sheikh Ahmed Gesadir, were gunned down by two masked men armed with pistols at the center of the town.
Shortly after the killing, forces of Himin Iyo Heb, the local self-styled administration in Adado, reached the scene and started search operations in the area and its suburbs. The administration said they captured six suspects, two of whom were connected with the assassination.
Two weeks ago, a British security consultant working with Save the Children was kidnapped in Adado, which is very near to Somalia’s border with Ethiopia. The aid worker, Franz Barnard, had gone to the town to observe if it was safe enough for Save the Children to establish a new center to help malnourished and sick children and their families. Five days later, he was freed with efforts by local elders and the self-styled administration in the area.

Government Single Parent Grants – Beware!
If you are considering getting government grants for single parents, there are a few salient points you should know first.
The first is that there are no specific single parent government grants out there. Any website that promises to help you get special aid for single parents is likely lying to you in an attempt to extract some money. There are plenty of scams out there that claim to deliver help to single parents, but only take your money.
Now it’s true that the government does offer quite a few grants. The majority of these programs, however, target organizations and not individual personal need. There are a few programs that you can apply for if you need financial help for something like school or starting a business, but special grants given out to single parents don’t exist. It could be that such programs may be implemented in the future by some government administration, but as of now, there are no government grants for parents raising children alone.
But just because you can’t get a grant directly for being a parent raising children alone, you can still seek out other grant aid. For example you can look at getting federal grants for school if you are a low income student. There are also various housing subsidy grants and car grants (you may have even heard of the expired cash for clunkers programs offered by the Obama administration) that you can look at. It’s still worth looking online to see what sort of legit government grants that you can qualify for – it could be that you find a program you can qualify for.
But if you can’t find a government grant, you can always look to see what some sort of private grants are available as well. There are quite a few out there that you can avail yourself of. The best place to search for private grants is online.
